Hey Siri, how do i pray?

Hey Siri, how do i pray?

Hey guys and gals,

Let’s be honest, our phones are literally in our hands 24/7. We’ve got apps for everything: ordering food, tracking steps, planning outfits, even stalking our crush’s story views (pls don’t lie). But have you ever thought about using your screen time to strengthen your prayer life? (I know… sounds so crazy but hear me OUT!)

I know, I know… tech and faith don’t sound like a match, and while this is true in so many. But just wait, let me explain; God’s not intimidated by the digital world. He moves through it, too. In the same way you use your phone to stay connected to your people, you can use it to stay connected to God.

People’s prayer lives don’t all look the same

Sometimes we think prayer has to be this deep, poetic moment with worship music in the background and candles lit. But prayer is talking to God, and you can do this anywhere! Yes, even while walking to the bus stop or getting ready for the day.

Technology isn’t replacing your faith; it’s enhancing it. Whether you’re using a prayer app, voice-noting your journal to God, or setting calendar reminders to check in with Him, it all counts.

Apps that actually help (And don’t just drain your spiritual battery)
Here’s the thing: there are some amazing apps that make staying spiritually consistent way easier, especially when life gets hectic (because when there are deadlines left, right, and centre, everything feels like it’s stuck in the air).

  • You Version Bible App – The OG. Verse of the day, Bible plans with friends, and you can highlight like it's your journal. (I’m currently highlighting everything this year in green, what colour are you choosing this year and why?)
  • Glorify – It’s daily devotionals, peaceful meditations, and calming worship, all in one pretty app.
  • Lectio365 – For quiet, reflective people. It helps you slow down, breathe, and listen for God in the loudness.
  • Soultime – A Christian meditation app for stress, sleep, anxiety, and spiritual growth.
  • Abide – For guided prayers and Bible-based sleep stories.· Daily Prayer App – Short morning, midday, evening and late-night prayers. For all routines.
  • Inner Room – Created by 24-7 Prayer, designed to turn your phone into a prayer tool.

Pick one or two that you think will benefit you in this season, and let them help you build rhythm, not rules, These apps mean you can fall back into the habit of meeting with God, using them as a crutch to eventually not need them at all.

So yes, you can still be that online and still tapped into your time with God. You’re not alone (Even Online)

Hebrews 10:25 says not to give up on meeting together… and guess what? That includes online, too!

You’d be surprised how God will show up in a group chat, a Christian TikTok, or an Instagram Live session. Don’t sleep on spiritual community just because it’s virtual. Jesus is everywhere, including WiFi-connected spaces.
So if you’re feeling spiritually dry, try joining a Bible study Zoom, following Christian creators that uplift you, or even starting a lil accountability prayer group on WhatsApp. We’re building the church in the DMs too, bestie.
You could also think about joining a Bible plan with some friends and spending time to talk about what you took from it, you could start a prayer group chat with friends, something are best done with many, one thing I like to do is follow faith based content creators on TikTok or Instagram, I think it’s great because they’re always discussing something good or a new perspective I didn’t see before…

Devotionals That Don’t Feel Dusty
Devotionals used to mean heavy books and early mornings (nothing wrong with that btw), but now? You’ve got options.
Try reading a digital devotional on your commute. Or listening to a Christian podcast while doing your skincare. (Yes, you can exfoliate and edify at the same time.)
      Some faves of mine:

  • Bible in One Year (with Nicky Gumbel) – It’s like storytime but with scripture.
  • The First 5 app – Gives you five-minute devotionals for your first five minutes of the day. Start it right.
  • The Basement with Tim Ross (Podcast) – Deep convos, Biblical truth and Real honesty. With random thoughts that make you think and laugh.
  • BibleProject Podcast – Theology meets storytelling. Complex topics made clear.
  • Faith and Prejudice Podcast – For believers who care about social justice and faith.
  • Let’s Talk (Jackie Hill Perry & Friends) – Real convos on life, faith, and everything in between.
  • UnderthebedPod - shed light on biblical truths, challenge stereotypes, and encourage spiritual growth.
  • Gracegivenpodcast – just phenomenal.

God knows your schedule. He just wants to be in it.
Real Talk: Tech Can Be a Blessing AND a Distraction
Sometimes, social media can easily become a spiritual black hole. One minute you’re watching a sermon clip, next minute you’re deep in a comment section about someone’s  drama (as much as I shouldn’t, I do love the tea).

Protect your peace. Curate your feed. Set boundaries. Don’t spend hours scrolling and then say, “I didn’t have time to pray.”
(You did… you just gave TikTok your time.)

Final Thoughts
Prayer in the digital age is less about being perfect and more about being present.
So keep your prayer journal in your Notes app. Set a reminder to talk to God. DM your friend a verse that helped you. Start that devotional plan with your group chat.
God’s not waiting for you to log off. He’s already logged in.

And if no one’s told you today: God sees your efforts. Your digital prayers count. You’re doing amazing.

With love and low screen time, Shola Jones xoxo
